LIVE Theatre: Coriolanus
Coriolanus is Shakespeare’s gripping tale of pride, power & politics.
Celebrated war hero Caius Marcius earns the title Coriolanus after a decisive victory against Rome’s enemies. Urged to enter politics, he seeks high office despite his open contempt for the people whose votes he needs. As rival politicians manipulate public opinion and turn the crowd against him, Coriolanus is cast out of Rome. Humiliated and furious, he plots a devastating revenge against the city he once fought to protect...
Coriolanus is recognized as being Shakespeare's most 'political' play and, although centuries roll by, the business of politics remains largely unchanged. For this reason, Circle 67 have brought the action into our own time. You may recognize some modern counterparts to Shakespeare's characters. Your role is to be a Roman plebeian - would you vote for Coriolanus?
Join Circle 67 out on the front terrace for one hour of entertainment. Basic seating is provided and there is no charge for admission; instead Circle 67 will pass their hats round at the end. All profit from this production will be donated to St. Elizabeth Hospice in memory of Steve Chadwick, who was a stalwart member and good friend to many people in the group, so please give generously.
